After the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri to Dior, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli had the chance to present his talent by designing Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2017 ready-to-wear collection on his own. He wrote a new chapter in the historiy of Valentino. He drew inspiration from the miniatures of the Middle Ages, the colors of the Renaissance and Paradise Lost. In a quest for the graceful poetry of color, Piccioli collaborated with Zandra Rhodes. The British designer has been invited to reinterpret the pure and innocent lines of the ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ an oil painting by Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch and transform into an incredible universe made of signs, symbols and stories in a romantic and punk print. Rhodes created eight new prints from Middle Ages to Renaissance, from the Quattrocento (15th century Italy) to the digital era.
“This collection is a journey through time,” said Piccioli a few hours before the show. “It’s the beginning of new era in which values evolve and the past is set aside to write the future.”
