Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo presented their second haute couture show in Paris on July 10, 2014. For Autumn Winter 2014/2015, the designer duo took inspiration from the universe of interior photographer Massimo Listri, whose sense of perspective and devotion to detail were elemental in conceiving this opulent collection.
Listri’s unique strength lies in making interiors look so absolutely vivid, as if they had a secret life of their own. Ralph & Russo’s new romantic collection captures the soul of such spatial intimacy – be it of a baroque hall or the mirrors at Versailles, depicting what their residents could have worn today.
It was the first time that I attended Ralph & Russo’s couture show in Paris. It took place in Rue Cambon, the street where Coco Chanel had her apartement (at no. 31). The location was very stylish and elegant. I particularly liked the purple light and the elevated catwalk.
The new couture collection reflects mostly the glamour of the Fifties. I bet Hitchcock would have chosen part of the collection for his heroines. Voluminous gowns in duchess satin and silk gazar contrast with fluid, floor-sweeping chiffons and silk crepe that accumulate into generous folds and shapes. Multi-layered ruffles spiral around column dresses, and skirts arise dramatically, forming perfectly chiseled marble-smooth arches.
The embellishment is painstakingly fine with the savviest ‘petites mains’ embedding astonishing adornment into exquisitely hand-made garments. Feathers quiver with whimsical frayed organza appliqué, and crystal encrusted jumpsuits strike out in a blaze.
Tunisian topmodel Hanaa Ben Abdesslem closed the show in a breathtakingly beautiful and richly adorned wedding dress.
