He’s one of the most versatile artists in fashion business and loves to surprise the fashion world with new collaborations and new projects: Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld. In Fall 2017, Lagerfeld will launch his first women’s fashion jewellery collection through a licensing agreement with The Swarovski Group. I saw the collection at the Baselworld tradeshow in March 2017 and liked the collection very much, especially the charms which symbolize what Lagerfeld loves: Choupette (his nearly 6-year old Birman cat), the camera (Lagerfeld has shot many Chanel advertising campaigns), the blue Parisian street sign Rue Lagerfeld, the sunglasses, the Eiffel Tower.
The Karl Lagerfeld collection reflects the brand’s feminine, Parisian-chic aesthetic with a bold, edgy twist. Contemporary styles – including necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings – are finished with gold plating, rose gold plating and rhodium plating, and feature iconic Swarovski crystals, pearls, studs and chains. Most designs have adjustable sizing and are finished with signature engravings and crystal accent charms. Core retail prices range from €50 to €250.
The collection is divided into three groups, which each reflect the brand’s DNA. Ikonic channels a rock-chic aesthetic, with modern styles. It includes a personalised charm program, ear jackets, asymmetrical necklaces, and feminine pendants. Klassic Karl designs are inspired by Karl’s handwritten signature and his famous feline, Choupette, and are crafted with Swarovski crystals and pearls. Essentials is an elegant and sophisticated collection with an edgy twist. Key pieces include crystal-encrusted chains, ear crawlers, and celestial inspired designs.
