ISADORA DIAMOND NECKLACE BY MESSIKA

Paris est en fête by Messika is one of the most spectactular haute joaillerie collections I’ve seen at Baselworld 2017. Valérie Messika has created unique high jewellery pieces inspired by the festive Paris from 1919 to 1929, ten years during which women were liberated and emancipated. Dancing, painting, haute couture… Women took control of a world that had belonged exclusively to men and reinvented its codes to the point of defining modernity itself.

“The 1920s was a founding decade in the world of fashion and in the arts in general,” explains Valérie Messika. “The decade marked the beginning of modernity. Narrower volumes, clean lines, the search for freedom of movement, ethnic influences… These are all the ingredients that guide my creative approach to how a piece of jewelry for women should look in the 21st century.”

Free your movement. That was Isadora Duncan’s motto. In the 1920s, the dancer and choreographer – the ultimate pioneer of modern dance – embodied a new freedom. Her tumultuous life fascinated people at the time, while her choreography based on improvisation promoted a new concept: the harmony between mind and body. In the spirit of a slender and feminine ballet, Valérie Messika offers us a necklace that is all flowing lines. The pear-cut diamonds are assembled next to each other in parallel lines, weaving in and out to create a ripple effect so they can be separated easily. It took 600 hours of work by jewelers in Messika’s Parisian atelier to honour a woman who strived throughout her life to promote movement. (gold weight 22.5 g, 139 diamonds 42.66 ct)

ISADORA HAND BRACELET

Using the same technical prowess to create a ripple effect, the cascades of pear-cut diamonds delicately embellish the hand. Infinitely transformable thanks to a detachable ring, the bracelet rests gracefully at the base of the wrist and becomes a piece of hand jewelry. (gold weight 20 g, diamonds 13.50 ct)

ISADORA EARRINGS

Valérie Messika has designed an asymmetric pair of earrings that play on sparkling cascades of pear-cut diamonds. A mischievous detail that has become the Maison’s signature: a weightless diamond illuminates the top of each ear. (gold weight 18 g / diamonds 12.37 ct)
