Hermès creates precious objects. Objects shaped by the hands of artisans to make them true companions for those who wear them. Hermès timepieces are designed to arouse emotions, open up interludes and create spaces for spontaneity and recreation.
At Baselworld 2017, I was amazed at seeing how Hermès continues to surprise fine watch lovers by creating unique métiers d’art timepieces and modern timepieces with striking mechanism made in Switzerland.
HERMÈS BASELWORLD 2017
SLIM D’HERMÈS GRRRR !
It took a special mindset to imagine this unusual encounter between a gruff bear and the delicate technique of miniature enamel painting. Once the introductions are made, the design originating from a Hermès silk scarf designed by the artist Alice Shirley is tamed by the brush.
With each pigment applied to the white gold dial, the animal’s expression becomes more daunting. Between each layer, it must not weaken during the drying and firing stages calling for faultless precision. It even gains intensity during the process. Once the portrait of the bear is complete and duly protected by a translucent enamel, the watch definitely lives up to its name.
SLIM D’HERMÈS L’HEURE IMPATIENTE
Hermès time cultivates the extravagant idea of reconciling rigorous discipline with whimsical fancy. Slim d’Hermès L’heure impatiente is endowed with a complication that invites us to look forward to an upcoming moment.
The jubilant ritual consists of setting the counter of the watch to the time of the eagerly awaited event that will take place in less than 12 hours. An hour before it occurs, the mechanical hourglass is set in motion and its progress can be followed at 6 o’clock on the dial. This complication culminates when the note rings out. The striking mechanism has been designed to ensure a lasting, velvety-smooth sound that is also delightfully modulated for the wearer’s ears only.
CAPE COD TGM BRACELET DE FORCE
Born from the singular vision of Henri d’Origny, who invented it in 1991 by sketching a square inside a rectangle, the Cape Cod dial appears in new shades that are echoed in an indigo blue, graphite matt or black matt alligator strap.
