On 9 June 2018, Givenchy made headlines when Meghan Markle walked down the aisle wearing a haute couture gown designed by the historic French maison. The white gown was seen by 1.9 billion viewers worldwide. In July 2018, artistic director Clare Waight Keller incited admiration when she presented the Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2018/19 collection in Paris. It pays tribute to Monsieur Hubert de Givenchy, the founder of the fashion house, not only for the timelessness of his creations but also for the innate elegance of the man himself and the grace with which he lived.
Clare Waight Keller studied the archives of Hubert de Givenchy and departed from most of the Audrey Hepburn references that usually go hand-in-hand with Givenchy and interpreted the lesser-known creations of the couturier. “It took a long time to achieve: the right materials that created the right feeling, the flawlessness of it. It just feels like it floats,” she said.
