Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1973) once said: “Women dress alike all over the world. They dress to be annoying to other women.”
The style of the Italian fashion designer was anything but annoying. She was a creative mind, a close friend of Salvador Dalì, and loved to mix elegance and eccentricity. She was famous all over the world for her surrealistic style. Art lovers admired her.
In 1952, she had to close her atelier in Paris. Coco Chanel’s minimalistic style was en vogue.
In 2012 the couture house was reopened at Hôtel de Fontpertuis, 21 place Vendôme, in the very place where Elsa left it.
