Vogue Paris supports and chooses to celebrate transgender beauty in its March 2017 issue. Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio (22) will appear on the cover of the new issue (on news stands on 23 February 2017).
Vogue Paris will become the country’s first ever magazine to feature a transgender model on its cover. “Beyond her evident physical qualities and her sparkling personality, Valentina embodies a long and painful fight against being perceived as a ‘gender exile’”, says Emmanuelle Alt, editor-in-chief of the French edition of fashion bible Vogue.
Photographed by Mert & Marcus, the Brazilian beauty posed for her first ever Vogue cover. She thinks that her success as a model will help other transgender people. “People are talking about us and I hope that one day we will be free,” says Valentina in an interview with AFP agency. “In general, transgender people do not have a lot of opportunities, they are forgotten – and I think this must end.”
FIRST TRANSGENDER COVERS VOGUE PARIS
“She never pronounces her birth name,” writes Vogue Paris. “And she had a good reason: it was a boy’s name, an error.”
