15 FACTS ABOUT SPREKENHUS COSMETICS

French actress Eva Green dreams about Norway. In an interview with the Guardian, she said: “I want to travel. Maybe I’ll end up in Norway, making cakes.” In Norway, dear Eva, you would not only find delicious cakes like bløtkake and kvæfjordkake, but also an amazing cosmetics line for your beautiful porcelain skin: Sprekenhus.

I discovered the brand at Maison et Objet in Paris in January 2019. Alexander Sprekenhus, the founder of the beauty brand, and his lovely assistant, who both have a beautiful and delicate complexion, introduced me to the haircare and skincare collection.

15 FACTS ABOUT SPREKENHUS COSMETICS

Sprekenhus is a Norwegian cosmetics brand based in Oslo.

Sprekenhus, the name of the brand, is the family name of Alexander’s grandfather. It’s an excellent choice, because hus is immediately associated with a Scandinavian name (like Haus in German).

The brand is based on the Scandinavian tradition where functional design meets beauty in simplicity.

Sprekenhus was launched in 2010, when Alexander was 19 years old.

Sprekenhus started its business with haircare products. Alexander couldn’t find good products for his hair and therefore decided to launch his own haircare products.

Sprekenhus hair and body care products are made from botanical and laboratory distilled ingredients.

The products contain a variety of rich anti-oxidant ingredients as well as argan oil in its highest quality. Sprekenhus uses certified organic and fair trade argan oil, delivered fresh in small batches directly from the source in Morocco.

Argan oil is rich in vitamin A and E, packed with antioxidants, fatty acids and linoleic acid, all of which help skin to heal and reduce inflammation.

VERTIGO’s favourite Sprekenhus product is the face cream (see review below).

Sprekenhus hair and body products are unisex products for men and women.

All products are produced in the United States.

Sprekenhus has an online shop. Therefore, you can order all products online.

Sprekenhus is also distributed by Zalando Germany.

The model of the Sprekenhus ad campaign is Josephine, Alexander’s sister. She worked a few years in finance before teaming up with her younger brother.

REVIEW FACE CREAM BY SPREKENHUS

During Paris Haute Couture Week, I tested a sample of the Sprekenhus Face Cream for six days and applied it every morning and evening after cleansing my skin. When I arrived in Paris, my skin was quite sensitive because of a French serum by Apotcare, a French cosmetics brand, I had been testing before. I had to stop using the Apotcare product after only four days because of an allergic reaction, even though I don’t have a sensitive skin. I was really amazed to see how well my skin reacted to the Face Cream by Sprekenhus. No more signs of redness, no more burning. The face cream was very effective and hydrated my skin very well. I didn’t feel any dryness during the day. Given the fact that the cream is quite light, it is also the perfect base for foundation and make-up. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen, the most effective anti-aging product, after the cream.

If you’re looking for an excellent cream for yourself, your mum, your boyfriend or girlfriend, I definitely recommend the Face Cream by Sprekenhus (60ml, 50 euros).

REVIEW SWEDISH COSMETICS BRAND L:A BRUKET

At the exhibition Maison & Objet, I also discovered the Swedish skincare and lifestyle brand L:A Bruket. The representative was very kind and more generous with the samples than Sprekenhus. Instead of two samples I received 15. The body lotion Lemongrass is quite light, but smells great. It’s the perfect summer lotion for men and women.

Unfortunately, my skin didn’t tolerate the Cleansing Cream Chamomile/Bergamot, even though I don’t have sensitive skin. The redness is probably due to four ingredients: Citrus aurantium bergamia (Bergamot) fruit oil and mandarine orange peel oil, which according to Paula’s Choice Beautypedia are skin sensitizers with no scientific benefit, as well as linalool and limonene, a chemical constituent of many natural fragrant ingredients.
