MANESKIN STAND UP FOR UKRAINE

Maneskin stand up for Ukraine

Maneskin have just published a 15-second video of their new song Dancing on Gasoline. The song is a tribute to the Ukraine, an independent democratic country that has been invaded by Russia on 24 February 2022. Russian forces entered the country on multiple fronts, starting the biggest war in Europe sind World War II.

According to the United Nations, more than 10 million people have fled their homes in Ukraine because of the invasion. 4.3 million have left for foreign countries, another 6.5 million people are displaced inside the war-torn country itself.

MANESKIN, U2, BILLIE ELISH, RITA ORA AND BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SUPPORT ZELENSKY

In a memorable speech aired at the 2022 Grammy Awards ceremony on 3 April 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed a global audience of influential artists and asked for support. “On our land we are fighting Russia which brings horrible silence with its bombs. The dead silence. Fill the silence with your music. Fill it today, to tell our story,” he said. “Tell the truth about this war on your social networks, on TV; support us in any way you can. Any – but not silence.”

Numerous musicians, actors, athletes, entertainers, and advocates have joined the international movement #StandUpForUkraine, which supports all the world’s refugees and displaced people. U2, Elton John, Bon Jovi, Maneskin, Lenny Kravitz, Billie Eilish, Celine Dion, Jonas Brothers, Metallica are just a few of them. The social media rally came before the Stand Up For Ukraine pledging event which took place on Saturday in Warsaw, Poland, hosted by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in partnership with Global Citizen.

VIDEO – DAMIANO DAVID SHOUTS: “FREE UKRAINE! F*** PUTIN!”

Maneskin gave a 45-minute concert at the Coachella Festival in California on 17 April 2022. Frontman Damian David spoke about the Russian invasion of Ukraine by quoting Charlie Chaplin. It is a quote taken from the Barber’s speech in the movie The Great Dictator (1940). (The video of Damiano’s speech has been removed from Youtube.)

“To those who can hear me, I say — do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed — [the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die,] and the power they took from the people will return to the people and so long as men die, liberty will never perish. (…)

“Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men — machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts. (…) You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. (…) Let us use that power. Let us all unite.” Damiano closed the speech with: “Free Ukraine. F*** Putin!”

GASOLINE (LIVE VERSION) BY MANESKIN AT COACHELLA

MANESKIN’S INTRO SOUNDS LIKE A TRIBUTE TO DEPECHE MODE

Maneskin’s new song Dancing on Gasoline should be released in the next few days. The intro sounds like a Depeche Mode song. The lyrics of the song are self-explanatory: How are you sleeping at night / How do u close both ur eyes / Living with all of those lives on your hands / Standing alone on that hill / Using your fuel to kill / We won’t take it standing still / Watch Us Dance / We’re gonna dance on gasoline.

Maneskin have spent the last two months in California recording new songs. On their official Instagram account, they posted pictures that showed them having a great time in sunny California. Their solidarity with the Ukraine expressed in the new song comes as a surprise, given the fact that the band never posted any comment on the war in the Ukraine in the first six weeks except on 21 March, when they (or most probably their management) announced the dates of their new tour 2022/23, stating that they would not give any concert in Russia.

Fans of the Italian rock band are looking forward to hearing new songs. On Youtube, many of them complained that on TV shows, the band had been performing the same two English songs in the last 12 months – Beggin’, a cover of a Four Seasons song released in 1967, and I Wanna Be Your Slave.

Maneskin performed at the Coachella Festival in California on 17 April 2022.
