Clé de Peau Beauté Day Emulsion: Is It Worth It?

I recently received my first Clé de Peau Beauté product and was genuinely excited to put it to the test. The sophisticated Japanese brand, founded in 1982, is known for merging advanced skin cell science with luxurious textures and timeless design.

About the Product

I chose the Protective Day Emulsion, part of the brand’s new Key Radiance Care skincare collection, which includes seven products designed to support the skin’s natural luminosity. I was looking for a hydrating, non-sticky emulsion to apply before foundation, and this seemed like the perfect match for my combination skin.

According to the brand, “it helps skin to protect and regenerate plumpness and elasticity on its own.” In the Clé de Peau Beauté philosophy, emulsions are created for those who want to proactively prevent visible signs of aging, while creams are meant for correcting existing ones.

The formula features Fortified Amino Ferment, an exclusive ingredient derived from the traditional Japanese fermentation of Rice Koji — a source rich in amino acids that help support the skin’s moisture barrier and radiance.

My Honest Review

The elegant white flacon with its elongated golden cap is a true feast for the eyes — pure luxury that instantly elevates any vanity. The packaging and textures remind me of Helena Rubinstein and Shiseido, two of my long-time favorite skincare brands.

The texture of the emulsion is beautifully light and silky. It absorbs quickly and leaves no shiny residue on my combination skin. The finish has a soft mother-of-pearl glow, perfect for makeup-free days when I work from home and wear only lipstick.

My skin feels hydrated, smooth, and radiant all day long, and makeup glides effortlessly over the emulsion without pilling or residue. Although it includes SPF 25, I still prefer to apply an additional SPF 50 sunscreen before heading outdoors for longer periods. With porcelain skin akin to Nicole Kidman’s, Clé de Peau Beauté’s latest ambassador, I rely on a high SPF to keep my complexion protected.

The Protective Day Emulsion retails for approximately CHF 155 in Switzerland and USD 180 in the United States. Considering that the bottle contains 125 ml (4.2 oz) and that a single application requires only about 1 ml—roughly one to two pumps—it can easily last around four months of daily use. Given its longevity and luxurious formulation, I find the price point entirely reasonable for a high-end skincare product.
