EMILY EXPLORES ROME IN AUDREY HEPBURN’S FOOTSTEPS

Au revoir, Paris! Buongiorno Roma! Emily Cooper and her boss Sylvie Grateau are heading to Rome to attend an important VIP event. While Sylvie is charmed by Italian beau Giancarlo (Raoul Bova, who played alongside Kate Del Castillo in La Reina del Sur 3), Emily Cooper discovers the Eternal City with Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini).

A REMAKE OF ROMAN HOLIDAY STARRING AUDREY HEPBURN?

For the new episode, which was shot in Rome, the capital of Italy, the scriptwriters and the showrunner of Emily in Paris Season 4 took inspiration from Roman Holiday, an American romantic comedy film released in 1953 and starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in her first Hollywood feature.

During a visit to Rome, Princess Ann (Audrey Hepburn) escapes her guardians in order to explore the city. While a massive search takes place, American reporter Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck) makes her acquaintance and guides her on an unforgettable day around Rome. Their ride on a Vespa is one of the most legendary scenes in film history.

Emily explores Rome in Audrey Hepburn’s footsteps. The Vespa scene and Emily’s outfits are clearly a tribute to Roman Holiday. “I’ve always felt this wonderful kinship between not just Lily and Audrey Hepburn, but the spirit of those movies, that ‘Old Hollywood’ feeling, and Emily in Paris,” explains creator Darren Starr. “I think Audrey Hepburn captured it so well in her movies like Roman Holiday and Charade. Her movies were romantic comedies and they were sophisticated  and international.”

TRASTEVERE, ROME’S MOST PICTURESQUE DISTRICT

Marcello takes Emily on a walk through the narrow cobbled streets of Trastevere, one of the most beautiful and authentic Roman neighbourhoods.

If you’re looking for one of the most beautiful streets in Trastevere to recreate the Emily in Rome scene, look for Vicolo della Torre.

The Osteria Nannarella in Trastevere is located on the lovely Piazza di San Calisto in Trastevere. Have dinner outside in summer or fall to get your romantic Emily in Rome moment.

Fun fact for any Maneskin fan: Thomas Raggi lived in Trastevere for a few months during the Pandemic.

WHICH FRENCH CAST MEMBER SPEAKS ITALIAN LIKE A NATIVE?

Italian viewers will be suprised to hear Sylvie Grateau speak Italian like a native. She already spoke Italian in one of the previous seasons of Emily in Paris. Even though she’s French, actress Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu actually grew up in Italy until the age of 11. Her father, Philippe Leroy, worked as an actor in Rome.

(More infos and pictures will soon be published.)

The new episodes of Emily in Paris Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on 12 September 2024.
