Milan, New York and Paris – the three most important Fashion Week hotspots are also very creative when it comes to fragrances. Let’s discover the new perfumes for fall 2021.
With a parade of gondolas, a surprise rainbow painting the sky, and 450 exclusive guests, Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda fashion show in Venice celebrated Italian craftsmanship, with all 100 pieces made by hand and rendered in luscious silks, brocades, velvets, glass and crystals, embroidery and special fabrics.
Opulence and gold are also reflected in the new fragrances by Dolce & Gabbana, The One Gold for her and The One For Men Gold.
The One Gold celebrates an independant and charismatic woman who radiates elegance in all that she does. The One Gold is an intense eau de parfum that represents this powerful modern femininity in olfactory form. Crafted by French master perfumer Violaine Collas, the fruity floral scent combines the sweet succulence of juicy gold plum and the fresh blooms of rose superessence with mysterious patchouli and seductive white musks.
The One For Men Gold is the olfactory embodiment of a man’s charisma. It celebrates a gentleman who exudes confidence with his innate elegance and unique style. The sophisticated eau de parfum intense was crafted by a trio of celebrated perfumers – Rodrigo Flores-Roux, Michel Girard and Olivier Pescheux. The scent is a sublime fusion of juicy citrus, spicy ginger and rich patchouli.
ELIE SAAB TEAMS UP WITH FRANCIS KURKDJIAN
Light is rooted deep in the soul of Lebanese couturier Elie Saab. All his work is woven with strands of light and his pursuit of brightness: from his choice of fabrics and silks to the lustre of embroidery, from designs that drape the female silhouette to the gems applied to haute couture gowns.
Le Parfum Lumière, Elie Saab’s new fragrance, captures the sensual sparkle of light. French master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, who was named Perfume Creation Director of Christian Dior Perfumes on 10 October 2021, has created an very elegant new fragrance, an accord of jasmine blossom’s heady carnal notes at dawn with the delicate sunset seduction of tuberose, strongly evoking the light of day captured in the bottle. The concept underlying Le Parfum Lumière is an ode to light, to utter elegance, to glowing feminine grace.
The modern floral woody chypre opens with nuances of Italian mandarin oil blent with a hint of Madagascan ylang ylang oil. A seductive bouquet of Indian jasmine sambac absolute and tuberose follows, beating at the heart of the fragrance, tempered by orange blossom with the same delicate weave as fine embroidery dipped in liquid gold. Finally, subtle echoes of musk, amberwood and patchouli heart entwine in a lingering but discreet Eastern trail.
The perfume bottle is faceted like a gemstone, gilt but transparent and crystalline, a homage to the encounter between Middle Eastern opulence and pure Western lines.

SERGE LUTENS
Serge Lutens, the perfume poet, introduces his latest creation La proie pour l’ombre with mystical words: “Oh Prophet, within you, you bear his cross, a blood other than yours runs through your veins! Cursed by this duality within me that has doomed me to chase after shadows rather than substance. The tender caress of vanilla and the cracking whiplash of leather, combined in a single emotion, to reflect the ambiguity evoked by the two sides of the same fable.”
This opus draws as much on personal as on literary inspiration and can be read like a surrealist novel, starring the classic solitary hero making his way through a mysterious, melancholic universe in search of answers and meaning. Through the expression lâcher la proie pour l’ombre (“losing the substance by grasping at the shadow”), Serge Lutens evokes a rediscovered old photo, a trace of his childhood and intensely intimate bond with his mother; his past and his memories jostle each other in a waking dream.
The French perfume’s principal notes – vanilla notes, leather notes and liquorice accord – create a wealth of contrasts – shadow to light, richness and softness. Improbable. Paradoxical. Elegant. A hypnotic, animalic and profound combination.
The softness of vanilla or the authority of leather – they will not be reconciled! Here, like two faces of the same coin, they are opposed, clashing head to head, but their fates are inextricably linked.
Serge Lutens feels pure and unconditional love towards the mother figure and vowed to remain faithful to this first union.
