Dean and Dan Caten, founders of the Milan-based fashion house Dsquared2, famous for its denim and tailoring, have teamed up with Firmenich perfumers Alberto Morillas and Marie Salamagne to create two new fragrances inspired by Wood. They define the contemporary Dsquared2 man and woman and target millennials in Italy, the brand’s strongest market, as well as in Europe, Asia and the US.
World-renowned perfumer Alberto Morillas, who has signed over 130 fragrances for international brands, was the mind behind Wood For Him, while Marie Salamagne was in charge of Wood For Her.
I attended the amazing Dsquared2 Wood press event in Zurich organized by P&I Parfums and Euroitalia at the bar and restaurant Loft Five, where I had the chance to test the new fragrances. I particularly loved Wood For Him, whose composition is more sophisticated than Wood For Her. The elegant eau de toilette by men can definitely be worn by women, too.
ANNA EWERS GETS SENSUAL FOR DSQUARED2
She’s the most successful contemporary German model after Tony Garrn. Her nearly 320’000 Instagram followers love not only her sensual look and her professional posing, but also her modesty and her nonchalance. Anna Ewers is the idol of thousands of young aspiring models. She was discovered by US designer Alexander Wang. Today, the 25-year old beauty is represented by modelling agencies in almost ten countries. Ewers, with her sensual lips, her blonde locks and her captivating sensuality, is frequently compared to Brigitte Bardot, the most famous French sex symbol.
WOOD FOR HER
Wood For Her, an eau de toilette for women, is made of mandarin from Sicily and raspberry leaf, expressing joy and vivacity, combined with lily of the valley and magnolia, which add fresh, ethereal notes. The infusion of osmanthus and jasmine reveals femininity. Bright notes of white woods and cedar, along with the depth of ambrox, mark a contemporary light floral fragrance for millennials.
FROM JUDO ATHLETE TO MODEL: MEET JULIAN SCHNEIDER
For the advertising campaign of Wood For Him, Dsquared2 cast Julian Schneider, a very athletic Austrian model who posed for a Calvin Klein ad campaign with Kendall Jenner in 2016. Before his model career took off, he was a Judo athlete and competed for Austria under his real name Maximilian Schneider.

Wood for Him, an eau de toilette for men, is a powerful and masculine woody floral fragrance. It opens with the Mediterranean freshness of bergamot from Calabria, mandarin and lemon from Sicily and is enriched with elegant, sharp notes of ginger. Vibrant tones of violet leaf and cardamom contrast with the distinct sensuality of ambrox. A modern blend of woods brings light to the deep, elegant character of vetiver.
Wood is designed around the characteristics of wood – strong and sturdy, with a complex structure that makes it unique – and defines the contemporary Dsquared2 man: sensual, dynamic and confident.
Wood completes the range with three hydrating bath products: bath & shower gel, after shave balm and deodorant stick. They leave skin with an immediate and lasting sensation of well-being and freshness.
WOOD PRESS EVENT BY DSQUARED2 IN ZURICH
(Above) No other master perfumer has created more commercial fragrance bestsellers than Alberto Morillas. He introduced the press briefly to the new fragrances that he and Marie Salamagne of Firmenich created for Dsquared2.
(Above) The Canadian decoration and the marple leaf on the pink box are a tribute to Canada, Dean and Dan Caten’s homeland. The marple leaf was added to the Canadian coat of arms in 1921. The long table at the restaurant Loft Five is made of Kauri wood, the oldest wood available in the world.
