The gang has been shut in the Bank of Spain for over 100 hours. They have managed to rescue Lisbon, but their darkest moment is upon them after losing Nairobi. The Professor has been captured by Sierra and, for the first time, doesn’t have an escape plan. Just when it seems like nothing else could go wrong, an enemy comes on the scene that is much more powerful than any they’ve faced: the army.
The end of the greatest heist in history is approaching, and what began as a robbery will turn into a war. Part 5 of the iconic Spanish series La Casa de Papel will be released in two volumes, on September 3 and December 3 2021.
27 FACTS ABOUT MONEY HEIST SEASON 5
Money Heist 5 is not really coming to an end. Netflix has announced that Berlin, who is played by Pedro Alonso, will get his own spinoff series. It will be broadcast in 20222.
Three new actors have been cast for the last season of Money Heist. The first one is Spanish superstar Miguel Ángel Silvestre (38), who’s currently etstarring in the Netflix series Sky Rojo. Even though he’s best known for his performance of Alberto Márquez in Velvet, Miguel Ángel’s acting portfolio is quite impressive. He starred in Narcos (season 3), 8Sense, Alacrán enamorado and El corredor de la muerte and many other movies. Miguel has 4 million followers on Instagram.
In Money Heist Season 5, Miguel Ángel plays René, a gangster whom Tokyo describes as the love of her life. They had a relationship before she joined the professor and the gang. Tokyo and her lover organized armed robberies and had the time of their life. One day, their plan failed and he got shot.
The second new actor is Patrick Criado (25), one of Spain’s most talented young actors. He plays Rafael, Berlin’s son. Even though they’ve never lived together and even though they’ve never had a real father-son relationship, Berlin invites his son to join him in Copenhague for lunch. Rafael soon finds out that his father paid his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and that he wants him to help him with a big robbery.
Rafael will play an important role in the last episodes of Money Heist 5 which will be broadcast in December.
Patrick Criado de la Puerta was born in Madrid. He started acting at the age of 10. In 2018, he played Daniel Arteaga Vargas, the son of a Mexican druglord in Vivir sin permiso (English title on Netflix: Unauthorized Living). His accent was so real that the viewers thought he was Mexican. In 2020, he starred in Antidisturbios, a film about an undermanned police intervention unit, bungling an eviction in a Senagalese community in Madrid. El Mundo described it as the best Spanish series of the year. In 2021, Patrick Criado won the Ferroz award for Best Actor for his performance in Antidisturbios. He has 311’000 followers on Instagram.
The scenes of Berlin and his son Rafael are flashbacks. Berlin (Pedro Alonso), who was the Professor’s brother and the villain of the gang, died in season 2.
In the flashback scenes of Money Heist 5, Berlin asks Bogotá (Hovik Keuchkerian) and Marsella (Luka Peros), “two ivy-league professors”, to assist his son Rafael in a “robbery with no risk”: stealing the biggest viking treasure hoard which was found eight months before at an archaeological site and which will be presented at the inauguration of the Viking gold museum in Copenhaguen, where Tatiana (Diana Gómez), Berlin’s wife, will give a concert.
Tokyo dies at the end of episode 4 of Money Heist 5. She sacrifices herself when she goes on a suicide mission to shoot at as many adversaries as she can to save her friends. She pulls out a grenade and dies alongside her enemies.
Tokyo’s last scene is very similar to the one of Léon: The Professional, a French action-thriller starring Jean Reno, Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman.
Life continues for Úrsula Córbero, even though she’s no longer part of the Money Heist cast. Two weeks before the premier of Money Heist Season 5, Ursula Corbero, who plays Tokyo, announced that she was the new beauty ambassador of Japanese cosmetics giant Shiseido.
Former inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) has been betrayed by the ministry of interior. At a press conference, Tamayo (Fernando Cayo) lies and states that Sierra has betrayed the police force and she is now collaborating with the Professor. He says that Sierra coordinated the extraction of Lisboa, that she leaked sensitive information to the Professor and that she received 8 million euros in exchange.
The police, the CNI and the government have created fake evidence. “Sierra has been betrayed and thrown to the lions, she knows that the Professor is not her biggest enemy,” says Lisboa.
Najwa Nimri (49), who plays inspector Alicia Sierra, is a multi-award winning actress and singer. She starred in more than 35 films and recorded 11 movie and TV soundtracks. In the Spanish TV show Vis à vis, she played alongside Alba Flores (Nairobi in Money Heist).
To carry out his plan, Palermo needs three volunteers who will be the most exposed. Denver, Tokyo and Manila volunteer. “Say goodbye to Stockholm. I’ll be a long night, and this might be the last time you see her,” says Palermo to Denver.
A special forces unit of the Spanish army led by commander Sagasta attacks the Bank of Spain. Sagasta is played by José Manuel Seda (53), a very talented Spanish actor who played Borja Medina in the Netflix series Toy Boy.
In a recent video interview (see below), Úrsula Corbero (Tokyo) said that there might be a spin-off that focuses on Tokyo’s life before she met the Professor and the gang. “There’s so much love and hate for Tokyo from the audience. Therefore, it’s an interesting choice to give her the chance to explain herself.”
“The last season is very dark, intense and belligerent,” said Úrsula. “It’s a war, and the story of Tokyo’s first love story is a a great contrast.”
Will there be a spin-off of Rafael, Berlin’s son? Pedro Alonso, the actor who plays Berlin, said: “They could shoot spin-offs of various characters of Money Heist. I said from the very beginning that I wanted a spin-off for Arturo”, he says laughing. “The various characters have been one of the key elements of the show. They are profound and emotional, which is not the case in US shows.”
José Manuel Poga, who plays the Gandía, the villain who killed Nairobi in season 4, said: “There are no heroes without villains. But Gandía is not the most hated character of season 5. You’ll have to watch episodes 6 to 10.”
