Vivian Maier was a nanny – and one of the best photographers in the US. But nobody knew her. She didn’t publish or sell a single photo during her lifetime.
“Finding Vivian Maier” is a critically acclaimed documentary about Vivian Maier, who secretly took over 100,000 photographs that were hidden in storage lockers and, discovered decades later. Today, she is considered one of the 20th century’s greatest US photographers.
Vivian Maier’s massive body of work came to light when in 2007 her work was discovered at a local thrift auction house in Chicago. John Maloof bought a box of negatives depicting Chicago in the 60’s for $380.
Directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel, Maier’s mysterious life and art are revealed through unpublished photographs, films, and interviews with dozens of people who thought they knew her. The only thing they didn’t know about her was her great talent for photography.
