From Egyptian Pharaohs and their gigantic construction sites – including the tombs of the eternal kings, guarded by the majestic Sphinx – to explorations of modern art, photographic retrospectives, here are our must-see exhibitions for 2024.
FROM VERMEER TO VAN GOGH
The Dutch Masters is a digital exhibition that presents the genius of the painters of the North through a complete immersion in authentic paintings that are faithful representations of nature and its themes. Visitors will explore the reality of daily life, following in the footsteps of the great masters who represented the ordinary in an extraordinary way.
Much like a filmmaker, Vermeer chose what to include inside the frame and created a world suspended in time. Master of chiaroscuro, Rembrandt encourages the introspection, while Van Gogh takes us under the summery night skies of the South of France.
From 16 February 2024 to 5 January 2025 at the Carrières des Lumières in Provence, France (infos & tickets)
FROM CHEOPS TO RAMESSES II
Step back in time and rediscover Ancient Egypt at the time of the Pharaohs! This legendary civilisation, spanning three millennia, fascinates and captivates young and old alike.
Gigantic construction sites and feats of ancient architecture, the pyramids take shape before your eyes. Monumental sculptures of sovereigns whose names resonate throughout history now tower over the space: Khephren, Hatshepsut, Thutmosis III, Akhenaten and Nefertiti…
Daily life in ancient Egypt is brought to life through magnificent bas-reliefs, paintings and ancient papyri.
The digital exhibition also takes visitors from Luxor to Abu Simbel, known for their majestic structures. They were cultural, spiritual, economical and political centres, where life and death were celebrated in great processions. Next comes the Valley of the Kings, home to the famous tomb of Tutankhamun. The Valley of the Queens also contains pure marvels, such as the tomb of Nefertari, all displayed in dazzling colour on the walls of Atelier des Lumières in Paris.

THE MASTER OF ART NOUVEAU
This year, Florence has more to offer than the Uffizi Gallery and David by Michelangelo. The Museo degli Innocenti currently hosts a fascinating exhibition dedicated to Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, one of the leading art nouveau artists. The exhibition displays 170 works by Mucha.
At the turn of the twentieth century, Paris was considered the centre of the art world; and during this time of great excitement, the time of the Belle Époque, Alphonse Mucha became the era’s most renowned and controversial artist. His works, illustrations, theatrical posters, including the ones for Sarah Bernhardt, and early advertisements ushered in a new form of communication. His art immediately became world famous and his style the most widely imitated. The powerful beauty of his women entered into the universal collective imagination.
