If you’re looking for a beautiful boutique hotel in the Quartier Latin in Paris, I highly recommend the Hotel Monge. I chose it for my stay during the Haute Couture Week in July 2016.
I arrived at the 4-star hotel on a Sunday morning at 10. The ladies at the reception, which looks like a beautiful cabinet des curiosités, were very friendly and invited me for a cup of coffee in the salon, where guests can enjoy free water, coffee and tea 24 hours a day. I immediately loved the interior design of the hotel, which is really unique. Every object and detail has been carefully selected. The black lacquered bureau by Moissonier, the Carrara marble fireplace, the Jacques Dubois style commode and the Coquillage mirror by Thomas Boog were my favourite pieces of furniture and decoration. The interior decor of the boutique hotel was designed by Patrick Henry and Marie Agnès Louboutin.
At the Hotel Monge, you have the impression to stay at a venerable family’s home rather than at a hotel. That was also the purpose of the owners when they decided to refurbish the house. It is actually the former home of a Parisian family who loved to entertain the artistic community of the Left Bank. Located in the heart of the fifth arrondissement of Paris, between the Jardin des Plantes and Notre-Dame Cathedral, this charming 30-room hotel re-opened its doors in spring 2016, having been completely renovated for 15 months. It is a very cosy hotel with only five rooms on each floor.
The hotel also features a private hamam and offers massage and beauty treatments with products by Décleor (the beautician has to be booked in advance).
(Above) My classic double room was on the third floor of the hotel. The beautiful wallpaper by Deyrolle, the antique objects and the velvet curtains in bordeaux make the room very cosy.
(Above) From my classic double room (15 m2) I could see the Arène de Lutece, a well-preserved Gallo-Roman amphitheatre, where many children were playing. I put my laptop on the small table and worked for an hour.
(Above) The bathroom is really spacious and flooded with light. I particularly liked the make-up mirror, which is perfect if you want to apply make-up in a professional way, and the products by L’Occitane, especially the make-up removing tissues.
(Above) Another beautiful wallpaper by Deyrolle Paris in a superior double room (17 m2) of the Hotel Monge. It is also a tribute to the fauna and flora of the Jardin des Plantes, which is located just a few steps from the hotel.
(Above) Every room has individual air conditioning and heating, an Italian-style walk-in shower, a flat screen HD TV with international channels, triple glazing and broadband Wifi accessibility.
(Above) Notre-Dame de Paris is within walking distance from the Hotel Monge. There are also two metro stations near the hotel.
