According to a report by The Fashion Spot, 78.2% of all the models featured in spring 2016’s fashion adverts were white, 8.3% were black, 4% were Asian and 3.8% were Hispanic. Although the percentage of non-white models has actually increased from 2015, there is still a long way to go.
British supermodel Naomi Campbell said: “I think I was the first black model to be on the cover of French Vogue, which was shocking to me because when I asked them about it, they were like, ‘Oh, no. We’ve never had that before.'” Only time will tell if the new generation in the fashion industry is more open-minded and willing to present a range of ethnically diverse models at their fashion shows in Paris, Milan, New York and London.
A Nigerian model with ice blue eyes
But who is going to be part of the new ethnically diverse model generation? Who will follow in the footsteps of Naomi Campbell, Chanel Iman and Alex Wek? You might find the answer on Mofe Bamuyiwa’s Instagram account. The photographer based in Laos (Nigeria) is a talented portrait photographer who puts a lot of effort in every single detail of this pictures.
In her child portrait series, Mofe portrayed three breathtakingly beautiful sisters: Joba, Jomiloju and Jare Ijalana. They even have their own Instagram account, The 3 J Sisters. “I want to portray the interception between her childhood and adulthood so both stay timeless”, writes the photographer on Instagram.
IS THIS GIRL (5) THE NEW NAOMI CAMPBELL?
Even though the three Nigerian sisters are very beautiful, it is obvious that the pictures taken by Mofe Bamuyiwa have been retouched with Photoshop, just like any other picture published in a fashion magazine. Blue eyes, sparkling eyes and a gold shimmering skin? Thanks to Photoshop, everything is possible nowadays, even though it doesn’t reflect reality.
Jare, the youngest sister, has been presented as the world’s most beautiful girl by several magazines. Every year, the social media community finds another child model who is the world’s most beautiful girl or boy. Last year, it was Russian girl Anastasia Knyazeva (see article below).
